EJ Holub Award to Tech's Slay
This year the EJ Holub "Double Tough" Award went to All-Big XII Safety Dwayne Slay. The award was present February 4, 2006, at a breakfast held at the Fiji Lodge, and again during halftime of the Texas Tech-Missouri basketball game. Also present at the breakfast were the parents of Dwayne Slay, members of the Texas Tech coaching staff, and several graduate brothers, including Bob Black, '58, Jack Henry, '59, his wife Jane, and Purple Legionnaire George Nelson. Slay said he was very honored to receive the award, and that this is an award that all the players want to get. EJ Holub, '60, was Texas Tech's first All-American and enjoyed a long professional career with the AFL Dallas Texans and the NFL Kansas City Chiefs for whom he played in two Super Bowls.
